Guillaume Larrue (1851-1935)


Larrue, born in Bordeaux, studied with Alexandre Cabanel. He was known as a painter of interiors, genre, portraits, landscapes and urban scenes, especially views in and around Paris. Larrue first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1879. He was elected a member of the Artistes Français in 1889, won an honorable mention in 1892 and a bronze medal at the Universal Exposition of 1900. In 1901 he was named an associate of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. His painting, Salle égyptienne du Louvre. devant le Grand Sphinx (The Egyptian Room of the Louvre, Before the Large Sphinx) is in the permanent collection of the Musée d’Orsay, Paris.
